BMW X5 Latest Update
The X5 is BMW’s large luxury SUV. It’s also a model that takes the ‘sport’ in sport utility vehicle rather seriously. In India, the X5 is available with a 3.0 diesel engine and there’s also the option of racy petrol engine. Do note, India only gets the five seat X5 and not the option of seven seats as available abroad.
BMW X5 Quick Review
The fourth-gen BMW X5 might sport an evolutionary design but its tight skinning, angular headlights and, of course, that large, single-piece grille help establish it as the latest in the line. On the inside, you see the best of BMW. The cabin is beautifully finished and there’s a whole lot of tech too. The dashboard is also very user-friendly but we aren’t fans of the layout of the all-digital dials. Front seat comfort is really good and drivers will also be happy with the view out. There’s loads of space in the back but the non-adjustable backrest is a tad upright and this can be a bother for some. Luggage space is excellent.
The 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine-powered X5 30d is the mainstay of the range. With 265hp and 620Nm, the diesel engine is big on power and punch. So much so that you’ll be surprised by how brisk the 2-tonne X5 is. What’s more, engine refinement is really good too. Petrolheads are sure to be well served by the X5 40i that features a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine. The engine makes 340hp and 450Nm.
The latest BMW X5 is not as sharp in the corners as earlier models but still few SUVs of this size feel as sporty. Models with air suspension deliver a plush ride at low speeds and you always have the option to adjust the settings to your liking. Handily, ride height is adjustable too.
BMW X5 : Our Choice
While the petrol 40i promises to be big on performance, it’s the diesel 30d that will be the X5 of choice for most buyers. The X5 30d is available in Sport and xLine trims and there’s quite a substantial price difference between the two. However, the extra outlay on the xLine gets you air suspension, larger 20-inch rims, laser headlights, 4-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera and hands-free boot release, among other goodies.
