Ford’s new Equator SUV is unveiled
Ford is set to launch the updated Equator SUV in foreign markets shortly. Built in China at the JMC-Ford joint venture plant, the Equator is positioned above the Ford Everest (Endeavour) in the international lineup of the American brand. The largest modification to the large SUV is the addition of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain option.

Ford Equator SUV What’s fresh
Ford has not yet made the Equator SUV official, but leaked images online give us a sneak peek at what’s to come.
New intakes in the front bumper, a more streamlined LED light arrangement, and a smaller grille are all features of the updated Equator. It receives a new-looking rear bumper and a full-width LED light setup on the back. Aside from the new alloy wheels, the SUV shares a similar profile with the outgoing model. It is unclear whether Ford will include the sizable 27-inch infotainment screen found on the Evos crossover in certain markets, as interior images of the updated Equator have not yet been released.

Details of Ford Equator SUV’s powertrain
The SUV has undergone visual design changes in addition to a plug-in hybrid powertrain option that generates 218 horsepower total by combining a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an 82-horsepower electric motor and a battery pack from CATL. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine has been discontinued in favor of a 1.5-liter gasoline powerplant that produces 170 horsepower and 260 Nm.

Ford Equator SUV India launch plan
After splitting from Mahindra, Ford was considering launching its own C-segment SUV in India, the Territory, which is based on the Equator’s platform. However, Ford’s withdrawal from India prevented further development of the new C-segment SUV.
