Mahindra Thar 5 door will be more expensive and efficient
Mahindra’s Thar 5-door is set to make its public appearance in the second half of 2024, and spy photos of the vehicle have circulated online for some time. Along with some notable exterior design elements, the larger Thar will undergo a number of internal changes. Further details about the upcoming SUV, for which Mahindra has registered seven nameplates, including Thar Armada, will be made available when it goes on sale. Until then, we know that the Thar 5-door will outperform the 3-door model.

Features
While there were no major complaints about the Mahindra Thar 3-door’s equipment list, the automaker will ensure that the 5-door version is perceived as more upmarket, reflecting its larger size and higher price point. Here are seven features not available on the Thar 3-door that will be added to the upcoming SUV:
First and foremost, spy shots of the Thar 5-door’s interior reveal a redesigned dashboard to accommodate a larger central infotainment screen. This unit, which is likely to be the 10.25-inch unit seen on the recently updated XUV400, will run the most recent Adrenox software and is expected to receive OTA updates.

New images of the Thar 5-door’s test mules reveal that top-spec versions will likely feature the XUV700’s large digital instrument cluster. Lower-level variants are expected to feature analogue dials, albeit with a larger central MID from the Scorpio N.
Higher trim levels are expected to include a dash camera with front and rear monitoring functions.
The driver and front passenger will have separate armrests.
Despite spy shots have shown two individual seats for rear passengers, the 5-door is also expected to get a bench seat in the back to seat three people comfortably.

Rear passengers will have dedicated AC vents, and bench seats will include a rear center armrest.
Higher trim levels will feature a single-pane, powered sunroof.
Mahindra Thar 5 Door Efficiency
Given that the Thar 5-door’s wheelbase is 300mm longer than its 3-door counterpart, the rear seats will undoubtedly be more spacious. Interestingly, the larger SUV will also have a larger trunk; with the rear seats up, the Thar 3-door’s trunk is only big enough for a couple of small bags. Mahindra also intends to add more storage spaces and cubbies to improve utility. Finally, the company is expected to use higher-quality materials inside the cabin, including the dashboard and doors, as well as seat upholstery.

Mahindra Thar 5 door engine
The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine will be shared by the 3- and 5-door Mahindra Thars, respectively, with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The off-road gear will be shared by both, but the suspension for the 5-door model will be modified depending on the powertrain. Production is expected to begin in June of this year, with Mahindra expecting to build around 4,000 Thar 5-doors, also known as the Thar Armada, per month.
