Popular Sleeper Cars 🚗 You can buy in 2024
What exactly constitutes a “sleeper car?” Most enthusiasts will tell you that it usually refers to a vehicle that is unusually fast or sporty, even if it isn’t marketed that way. A compact SUV or a family sedan can be a sleeper, depending on what’s under the hood and how it handles corners.

Throughout history, there have been some legendary sleepers. However, for this list, we’ve limited it to vehicles that can still be purchased new in 2024. This includes a few fast SUVs, some tough trucks, and even a coupe or two you may not have considered.
BMW X2 M35i
The BMW X2 is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “sleeper,” but this compact SUV does have one advantage: it is incredibly fast. The newest version for 2024 has 312 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque from a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that accelerates to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard, as is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and, like all M vehicles, it has adaptive suspension and big brakes.

Chevy Silverado Trail Boss
The Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX receive the most attention, but the Silverado Trail Boss should not be overlooked. This off-road truck is equipped with an optional 6.2-liter V-8 engine that generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, as well as an abundance of off-road equipment such as all-terrain tires, monotube shocks, and more. You won’t beat a Raptor in a drag race, but even with the 6.2, the Silverado is significantly less expensive.
Ford Edge ST
The Ford Edge will be available for one more model year, despite rumors that it would be discontinued this year. And with that, you can still get your hands on the hotted-up ST model, which features a turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 producing 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The ST trim includes a stiffer suspension, optional performance brakes, and sport bucket seats.

Genesis G70 3.3T
The Genesis G70 3.3T is no longer a secret, but it remains a viable sleeper that is less well-known than the BMW or Mercedes alternatives. The G70’s twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 engine produces 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, and it features adaptive suspension and a Sport+ mode that disables traction control. It’s an extremely sporty sedan.
Hyundai Sonata N Line
Sure, Hyundai has a full line of N products, including the Veloster, Kona, Elantra, and the upcoming Ioniq 5. However, if you prefer something more subtle than a full-on Hyundai N model, the Sonata N-Line could be a good choice. It still has a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 290 horsepower and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. N bucket seats add sportiness to the cabin, while 19-inch wheels adorn the wheel wells.

Kia K5 GT
The Stinger was Kia’s first rear-wheel-drive sports sedan. It is now gone. But don’t worry, the K5 GT meets (some of) that performance demand. The K5 GT may not be the rear-drive phenom that the Stinger was, but it does have a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that produces 290 horsepower and pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The biggest problem with the K5 GT is that it lacks a limited-slip differential, resulting in a lot of torque steer.
